Murdick’s Fudge on Martha’s Vineyard
How Sweet It Is…
Friday, May 8th, 2009
As I wandered the streets of Edgartown last week, a familiar scent kept tickling my nose and causing a bit of a rumble in the tummy. Excitedly I picked up my pace until I was standing in front of what makes me smile every season. Murdick’s Fudge is open for the season!
An island favorite for decadent fudge, brittle and now popcorn. I hear rumors that the popcorn once popped, is going to be kept in a warmer so that the kernels are warm and tasty from the first to the last bite.
The fudge is what I clamor for and has become a staple of gift giving to friends and family. Made fresh daily in the store, it comes in multiple flavors like chocolate, vanilla, chocolate peanut butter, rocky road, Cape Cod cranberry and many more. You can actually watch the fudge being made from the stirring of ingredients in the antique copper pot to the pouring of the fudge onto a marble slab table. From there, the employees who have one of the best jobs on the island, spread it and shape it until it cools and can be cut into nice thick, delicious slices of fudge. I think a moment of silence is appropriate at this point as we appreciate the art and perfection that goes into this process.
The boxes that the fudge comes in are large enough to put several slabs in, yet small enough to hide from anyone who might want a bite of your secret stash. Hypothetically speaking, of course I’ve never hidden fudge, but I hear it’s a good way to keep intruders away.
On the island we are lucky enough to have three Murdick’s locations and one is within walking distance of my house. I will be notifying the store so that they can hire more people to produce more fudge for me.
For all your sweet treats and take home goodies, check out Murdick’s Fudge, your taste buds will thank you!

April 20th. Edgartown Harbor is still pretty quite as you can see by the photo. It won't be long and the harbor will be full of boats again.

Another season is upon us as Murdick’s Fudge in Edgartown opens its doors this weekend (April 17, 18 &19th) for the first time in 2009. This is not just another regular opening for us at Murdick’s Fudge for we will be celebrating our 30th season on Martha’s Vineyard. We at Murdick’s are very proud of this achievement but this accomplishment would not be possible without the great support from our customers and the community of the island. In honoring of that support we at Murdick’s will be celebrating in a special way. Look for special offers at all three of our locations and on our web-site as we move into the 09 season.
A long with this 30th year of business on the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard it is also our 10th year of the Murdick’s Run the Chop Challenge. This is a 5-mile road race that will take place on July 4th at 9 am at the Tisbury School in Vineyard Haven. Murdick’s Run the Chop Challenge is a way that we can give back to this great island community we do business in. Murdick’s has raised over $25,000 for children over the life of the event with benefactor being Big Brothers Big Sisters of Martha’s Vineyard. Information on the Run the Chop will be in our stores and on our web-site shortly. Sign up and join the fun as we raise money for a great children charity.
Again, we would like to thank all of you for your 30 years of support and we invite all you to join us in celebrating our 30 years on Martha’s Vineyard.
